Genesis 1 - A Big ol World

Well, way back yonder, God done made the sky and the land. But the land was all dark and shapeless, with water all around. Then God's spirit went a-movin' on top of them waters. Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light! God saw that the light was good, so he split it from the darkness. He called the light "Day" and the darkness "Night." And that was the first day.

On the second day, God said, "Let there be somethin' in the middle of them waters, to divide them." And God made the sky, and split the waters under it from the ones above it. God called it "Heaven." And that was the second day.

Then on the third day, God said, "Let the waters come together in one spot, so land can show up." And it was so! God called the land "Earth" and the water "Seas." Then God said, "Let the land sprout all kinds of plants, trees, and bushes." And it was so! The land brought forth all kinds of vegetation, and God saw that it was good. And that was the third day.

On the fourth day, God said, "Let there be lights up in the sky, to divide the day from the night and to be signs of times and seasons." And God made the sun, the moon, and the stars. God put them up in the sky to give light to the earth, and to rule over the day and the night. God saw that it was good. And that was the fourth day.

On the fifth day, God said, "Let the waters be full of living creatures, and let birds fly in the sky." And God made all kinds of sea creatures and birds. God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and multiply." And that was the fifth day.

On the sixth day, God said, "Let the land bring forth all kinds of animals, cattle, and creeping things." And it was so! God made all kinds of animals, and God saw that it was good. Then God said, "Let us make people, in our own image." So God made people, male and female. God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and multiply, and rule over everything on the earth." God gave them all the plants and trees for food. And God saw that everything he had made was very good. And that was the sixth day.
